SCM501 - Protecting Intellectual Property - JRE Top Picks

Image
The main issues in IP/copyright issues usually boil down to one of two categories: 1. Using someone else's content to the point where they can pursue legal action Due to the nature of the internet today, most content is based of someone else's content, to the point where people livelihoods are sometimes dependent on alternative streams of content to maintain their own, this can be seen in youtubers that do news or commentary for a specific game for example. In a world where people livelihoods are at stake I think it's important to draw the line in the sand and clearly define to what extent people can make use of other parties content. The internet is somewhat of a lawless place until money get involved, once money is involved then people start enforcing laws to ensure that they are protecting their IP against those that would use it for their own gain. Using someone's content can often play in their favor though as long as you are not pretending to be them it exis...

SCM501 - Online Safety and Privacy - JRE Top Picks

Image
Topic Discussion Concerning the topic of online safety and privacy it often has people with quite polarizing opinions, some people are overly concerned with their privacy to the point where they are paranoid whereas some people live in blissful ignorance of what's really going on. I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle and most people are already being taken advantage of in ways that some do not realize. Big tech companies farm information on people and re-purpose said information without peoples consent and/or awareness. So in this day and age we have huge tech companies blowing up over this massively profitable endeavor, these companies were afforded trust from the public because in the early days of tech everything these companies did simply made things better but now they are in a position where they likely have to be reigned in by the government. Government intervention may include splitting the companies up into smaller decentralized companies and/or enforcing a rul...

SCM501 - Participating in a Community 2 - JRE Top Picks

Image
In this blog I'll be discussing the interaction I had with the community I spoke about in the previous blog (reddit.com/r/joerogan). Over the course of a week or so I kept a rough eye out for any topics that I might want to chime in on, usually I will browse the comment threads for these topics without giving any input back. Example 1 reddit.com/r/JoeRogan/comments/d8xtf0/do_yall_really_understand_the_simulation_argument/ The first example of participating in this community I have is from a thread in which people were discussing their understanding of the simulation argument. Viewing the thread creators initial post might help give some context as to what I'm talking about here, the topic was born from a recent podcast Joe did wherein he had a notable philosopher on his podcast and the resulting conversation involved some talk regarding the ' simulation theory '. In this thread people were throwing their two cents in regarding the validity of the theory. I...

SCM501 - Participating in a Community - JRE Top Picks

Image
I've chosen to participate in the Joe Rogan subreddit, a very active community based around not only the JRE podcast but everything Joe does. https://www.reddit.com/r/JoeRogan/ A portal to discuss Joe Rogan, Comedy, MMA, Psychedelics, Mind-expanding revelations, Conspiracies, Insights, and Fitness & Health. The subreddit is quite active with 408,406 subscribers, the content posted is of wide variety like Joe interests. Fortunately, this is a community that I lurk in before I considered it for this assignment so I already understand it to some degree. Reviewing a random screenshot of the front page we can see the variety of content, most of which doesn't make sense unless you understand topic commonly spoken about on JRE and the people related to Joe. At the top we can see two (green) stickied threads, one for discussions surrounding the latest podcast and another for general discussion, next is just a normal news article that doesn't appear to be related to Jo...

SCM501 - Managing my Online Identity - JRE Top Picks

Why have I set my blog up the way I have? My brand is not original therefor I have taken most media from the source brand, in all honesty, there has not been that much thought put into it as long as I am representing the brand in an honest way. The picture I used for my header image is meant to help convey the type of atmosphere the podcasts themselves have by actually showing a picture of Joe doing a podcast with someone whilst they appear to be explaining something in depth while Joe is intently listening. Other than that there is not much personalisation going into this as the focus is around the blogs themselves, the personalisation is implemented by the guests I choose to write about as they reflect my personal bias when it comes to interesting people to listen to. Through curating my own list of 'top picks' I am pushing forward a list of podcasts that I think to be of high value. My social media accounts on facebook and twitter are both of similar application. The ...

SCM501 - Personal Brand - JRE Top Picks

Image
The brand I am trying to put forward 'JRE Top Picks' is entirely devoid of anything to do with myself, it exists as a type of fan page with the purpose of promoting Joe Rogan's podcast to more people. Because of this reality, a lot of the branding is already existent from how Joe brands himself. Due to the nature of the brand being that I pick out my 'top picks', there is control over the brand through what podcasts I choose to push forward to my audience. Over time this would lead to an obvious personal bias when it comes to the guests Joe hosts, Joe also generally has an open mind to many of his guests and tried to bring the best out of them whilst rarely opposing their viewpoints directly which would lead to less conversation that is less fruitful in my opinion. I have a wide interest when it comes to Joe's podcasts as most of the guests are within my boundary of interest, including but not limited to (comedians, hunters, scientists, writers). At this stag...
