SCM501 - Managing my Online Identity - JRE Top Picks
Why have I set my blog up the way I have?
My brand is not original therefor I have taken most media from the source brand, in all honesty, there has not been that much thought put into it as long as I am representing the brand in an honest way. The picture I used for my header image is meant to help convey the type of atmosphere the podcasts themselves have by actually showing a picture of Joe doing a podcast with someone whilst they appear to be explaining something in depth while Joe is intently listening. Other than that there is not much personalisation going into this as the focus is around the blogs themselves, the personalisation is implemented by the guests I choose to write about as they reflect my personal bias when it comes to interesting people to listen to.Through curating my own list of 'top picks' I am pushing forward a list of podcasts that I think to be of high value.
My social media accounts on facebook and twitter are both of similar application. The display picture I used for these mediums is a light-hearted one from an episode where Joe and his buddy Duncan Trussel are both dressed up and likely under the influence of drugs for episode #1313. I am considering doing a post on Duncan, he usually has some insightful things to talk about whilst also having a good rapport with Joe so it may find the best of both worlds.
My blog contains links to both my social media accounts, the idea being that they will cross-pollinate to create an overall higher engagement with all mediums.
To further increase the engagement in my content I think a viable idea may be to dabble into meme culture by creating my own JRE memes that I think post using twitter & facebook to try and gain more eyes my way.
Managing my online identity in my eyes should involve putting the best foot forward for the JRE brand, by promoting podcasts that represent the best of what JRE has to offer.
Positive qualities that I believe Joe represents on his podcast:
- Open-minded
- Integrity
- Honesty
- Optimism
- Rationale
- Easy-going
In managing my online identity I believe if I can put the best foot forward for JRE I may be able to get more people interested in this source of awesome, applicable knowledge!
The identity is separate from my personal identity due to the focus of it not being about myself which is for the most part how I prefer it, I am generally not one to put myself into the limelight as the 'star of the show' but I am comfortable with putting something I have created or something that I believe in forward with myself supporting it closely behind. JRE represents a lot of what has shaped the person I am today, some from Joe himself but more so from the people he chooses to have as guests, from neuroscientists, philosophers, astrophysicists, comedians, hunters, writers and other various forms of public intellectuals. The way Joe approaches his podcasts with these varying types of people allows them to represent their opinions and ideas to the audience in the way that they intend to, without their words being twisted in a certain way and then being cut off from correcting themselves. I believe this behaviour is an important part of the JRE brand and whilst thinking about my online presence it will be important to rid myself of as much bias as possible like Joe does in order to allow the guests themselves to shine to the best of their ability.
